Task 1: The School and Learning Environment Name of student: Denisse Andrea Riquelme Valdés Name of School: Escuela República de Uruguay Number of students: 30 and 25 students Date: May 11th, 2010 Class: 2°C and 3°A
1. The School The Republic of Uruguay School is an only girls primary public school located in the downtown area of Valparaiso at Eusebio Lillo N°138, just off Argentina Avenue, an area where you can find many other schools. It has a quite large building, with four floors for all classrooms, a basement used for computer studies and science, and a huge court, used to practice different sports. Its student population is around 1500 students, from grades 1 to 8, distributed in four different classes per grade. Its educational and behavioral polices are about educating young women to be valuable and productive members of society.
2. The Classroom Both classrooms that I observed have a very similar layout. Since they are being used by younger students, they are brightly decorated with pictures of the alphabet, numbers and other material that could easily help their learning process. You can also find some the students´ own art work on the classrooms´ walls, or sometimes decorating the whiteboards. The girls are all individually seated in 5 or 6 six rows equally distributed in the classroom, which is my opinion was spacious enough to generate a friendly environment.
3. The Activities and Resources. This time, in the grade 2 class there is a coloring, cutting and pasting activity about the days of the week. The teacher hands them out seven circles with the names of the days of the week written in each of them, the students must color them, cut them and paste them on a picture of a caterpillar, handed out by the teacher as well, in order to form its body with each of the circles. Once they finish the teacher gives them a checkmark for completing the task. In the grade 3 class, they are having a test about the seasons. Once again the teacher hands them out the test, where they have to associate each season to a different picture. In both cases, they use their own material (pens and color pencils) and materials given out by the school (pictures).
Task 2: Student ´s learning
1. The Learners In my opinion, I don´t see them really motivated to learn English, I feel they did the activities as part of any other school task, focusing more on getting the work done, rather than actually learning what is being taught.
2. Behavior during classroom activities
Since we are dealing with very young learners, the main strategy used in order to get them involved in classroom activities are learning through pictures, coloring and painting, but I think that this strategy could also distracted them from the real purpose of the activity.
3. Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom.
Most students have a visual learning style, since the vocabulary they are learning is quite basic, just as their English level.
República del Uruguay School is located in Valparaiso’s downtown. It has a population of 1000 girls. I could not realize about others details because I started my VISE the last week. The atmosphere of the room is some tense because girls are always speaking or shouting, they don’t obey to the teacher so the teacher is not fairy happy when has to teach them. The teacher doesn’t like arrive to this room because she knows girls aren’t interested in her subject. However, there are girls that want to participate. The classroom I think is suitable because It has enough size for them, every student has their own chair and table, there are many windows so there is always natural light. It was clean (I suppose every day is the same). Every room in this school has a big whiteboard, a LCD and a slide projector. The day that I was in the classroom the teacher did a review because the next class they would have a test about Preset Simple. The teacher chose some girls in order to explain on their own words the topics. Many girls wanted to participate because they were interested in learning the subject and others girls wanted to participate because they didn’t know anything about the topics for the test. Therefore, only the whiteboard was used. The school has a reading comprehension project so the next period was used in this. The school gives them a text with five questions and the girls have to read it in ten minutes, then, teacher has to ask them about the text. The girls of my class are in a difficult life stage. They are teenagers and all people know in that stage you are thinking about others things like boys, beauty, parties, etc. So, to call their attention is really difficult. In spite of this, they have good disposition to participate. The class have a poor English level, to girls is difficult to understand the Present Simple.
Name of student: Elias Jorquera Name of School: Joaquin Edwards Bello Number of students: 25-30 Date: 11/05/2010 Class: 3ª B
1. The school:
The School is located in Cerro Baron, Rodelillo ave 4110 it is just Basic Education which goes from 1ª up to 8ª, there is an average of 600 students in the school.
2. The classroom
The class room is a normal class room with a big white board and a couple of bookcases which contains the books of different subjects (mathematics, history, English, etc). The student are organized in 3 rows of 2 students each one. They are not equipped with anything especial besides the textbooks. There are several decorations of material like the alphabet and stuff.
3. The activities & resources
Lecture classes are the most common way used by teachers. Student participate according to the subject , they tend to participate more in subjects like maths or history than in English.
Task 2: Student´s learning
1. The learners
From my point of view the motivation of students relies on three aspects.
1.- Subject: Some students like mathematic more than English or Spanish which makes them more motivated for this class in spite of others.
2.- Personal skills: Students who have more skills in a particular subject will always prefer that subject to work and develop even more their skills.
3.- Teacher: Is also important the way that teacher make the class, if is motivating or not that depends on the teacher.
Anyway student are not really motivated about English they prefer finish the work quickly than learn about it.
2. Behaviour during classroom activities
The teacher tries to make them trust in their own skills and make them realize that they are capable of solving problems. There are no special needs.
3. Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom.
The English level in the class room is very poor almost nothing but some students who have skills for English are capable exercises with a little help.
Name of student: Sebastián Escobar Olivares Name of School: Escuela Joaquín Edwards Bello Number of students: 26 Date: May 11th, 2010. Class: Cuarto Básico B Briefly describe the following aspects:
1. The school:
1.- Joaquin edwards bello school is a mixted primary school, which is located in Rodelillo Avenue Nº 4110. The school has a normal size, and the population is around 500 to 600 students. The goal that the school is trying to reach is giving strong values to the students in order to take them out from bad behaviours.
2. The classroom
2.- The atmosphere in the classroom is not as good as I expected, because the students are very noisy, and they usually are fighting, so the teacher has to raise his voice in order to make them quiet. The classroom is quite big, so they can even run inside it. It has big windows, in which we can have fresh air whenever we want and the sun is always hitting. The whiteboard is also big, and the equipment is not very good, but for 4th grade students I think its fine.
3. The activities & resources
a) Normally the teacher start writing on the board, then ask the students to answer or to go and write the correct answer on the board. There are few students that really want to participate in the activities, so finally the teacher is the one that ends giving the answers to the kids.
b) In the classroom is commonly used a data show, which was given to the school by a private company in order to improve the equipment. The teacher has to use his own computer in the classroom to show the information using the data show.
Task 2: Student ´s learning
1. The learners I would say that most of them are not motivated at all, I think the problem begins in their houses, maybe their parents are not interested in what their children are doing, so they dont motivate the students. They hate working by themselves, they are always asking everything, and the teacher sometimes cant help 25 students, and maybe they cant get even more frustrated. They enjoy playing in the classroom, and the less they do the happier they are, so they wait to the teacher to make the work for them. 2. Behaviour during classroom activities The most common way to ecourage them is by saying that they will be sent to the principal’s office or that they parents will be called to an interview, that is the only way they get quiet and start participating. 3. Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom. There are some students that are very intelligents but I could notice than they dont study, so they keep forgetting things. The level of English I think is normal to students of 10 years old, but I have seen some of them who dont know anything, that is very worrying.
Task 1: The School and Learning Environment Name of student: Daniela Delgado López. Name of School: Escuela República de Uruguay. Number of students: 36 Date: May 6th, 2010 Class: 8ºD 1. THE SCHOOL The Escuela República de Uruguay is located in the downtown of Valparaiso city especifically at Eusebio Lillo N°138.It is an primary public school only for girls. And with a student population is around 1500 students ,it is organizated in classes divided into four sections per grade. That is means A-B-C-D for each grade. With a average of 35 students, the classes are not too populous like another schools.
2- THE CLASSROOM The room has a big window and is located in the third floor so in terms of air and light there has no problem and it has enough space to lodge 36 students. About the equipment there is a fit whiteboard in the centre of the wall with 2 different colours of markers and at the top of the is settled a big plasma TV that looks luxurious and new.
3-ACTIVITIES & RESOURSES A) That day the students had a test about Present Simple, so it was supposed that all of them had studied for the test. But the exam was put off because of a talk from the Director to all of 2º Ciclo. The teacher disposed among 20 and 30 minutes to make a summary of the contents and ask for any doubt. So, she decided to ask for a voluntary to explain what were the contents about. Nobody rised her hand and then Miss Daniela choosed one student to explain to her classmates what the Present Simple is. Sofía started to write on the whiteboard an example of the affirmative form of Present Simple. She did it in a very good way and Miss Daniela congratulated Sofía. Then another student was choosed to explain the negative form of Present Simple, but she didn’t do very well. She was not engaged and interest in the class. Suddenly the others students started to give her hints and she could finished the example. The last one explained the interrogative form of Present Simple and despite of being nervious she did it cleary. I think that was a good way to make the class more interesting and dinamic. The teacher could checked how many of them was studied and their doubts and fails.
B)I think the school has good and trendy equipments. There are the necessary things and balls to practice ,for example, basketball, also there are launching pad for gymnastics. I could see the library with a not big collection of books but in the top of that room a plasma TV and the same television set in the classroom of 8ºD. So, I can imagine that all the classroom have the same equipment that 8ºD has.
Task 2 : Stident's Learning
1- THE LEARNERS Almost the entire group of students are not motivated with the class. Maybe is because they are between 13 and 14 years old. A troubled stage full of changes. Some of them seem a bit lazy and desinteresed. Another group (maybe 7 or 9 students) pay attention to the class . The rest of them are restless and talkative. The group of students that didn’t pay enough attention being desinteresed was expecting that the teacher or another classmates give them the answer of an previous question. In the other hand, the other two groups were making question or giving opinions about the topic (Present Simple) and even the talkative group of student did that.
-BEHAVIOUR DURING CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES Well, I stayed in class with them almost 20 minutes. And I couldn’t see more than the little summary of Present Simple. That was kind of interactive and dinamic because Miss Daniela choosed three student to explain in their own way the three forms of Present Simple. I could’t recognize students with special needs, at least physical needs.
3-DISCUSS THE LEARNING STYLES AND LEVELS OF ENGLISH IN THE CLASSROOM.
I couldn’t recognize the styles and levels of English in the classroom. That is because of the short time that the class lasted and the activity were not enough to do it.
Name of School: Colegio “El Arrayan”. Number of students: 25, 30 y 28. Date: May 12th Class: 8th grade, 2nd and 1st grade.
1. The school:
Colegio El Arrayan is a partly subside school. It’s located in Del Roble 498, Casablanca. Its population student is mixed and it has 734 students. The levels are from first year to the last year of general education. It has a big building with two floors where you can find the classrooms. From seventh grade to fourth grade the classroom are divided by subject. The school has 3 fields, a computer room, a science room, a library, a teacher classroom and a special dining room from their teachers.
2. The classroom
The classroom of 8th grade has a special atmosphere, because the class can be development with naturalness, but at the same time there is a feeling of noise all the time. The classroom has a big space. The windows are big, where the light can in to the room without problem, also because of the size of the windows the classroom is always airy. In the classroom there are: a whiteboard, a sound stereo, connection to internet and a data show. The first year classroom is medium, but also has big windows located at the end of the room. This room has a T.V a cupboard to the children and other to the teachers. It has a whiteboard and a desk. The second year classroom is big and it has big windows, the room has the same characteristics of the others.
3. The activities & resources
The kind of activity used in the class of May 4th in the 8th grade was a reading task, in this activity the majority parts of the students were participating, but some students were making noise in the classroom. Meanwhile the teacher was writing in the book class. In the first year class they are learning the colours and some objects, for this the teacher used some interactive cards, these cards have different colours and objects. The teacher is always moving, because he has to show the cards. Also the students have some songs related with parts of the body. In the second year the students were seeing objects from the classroom and identifying the position of these elements, for example under the chair. The tacher is always moving.
In the 8 grade classroom there are some good resources; for example the data show and the sound stereo, but in this moment the sound stereo cannot be used, because the teachers has not the C.D of the book. In the first and second grade classroom the resources are not used, because the teacher uses his own material.
The 8 grade is a slightly strange group, because they don’t show motivation, but they learn fast. The teacher has to be asking constantly if they finish the activity and give them extra minutes for do the activity. However there are students that do their activity by their self in the right time. I think these students like learning English. In the first year class the majority students show enthusiasm and participate of the class. They enjoy sing and do the activities. In the second year class some students show enthusiasm, the noisy is always present.
Behaviour during classroom activities
The 8 grade is a noisy group. They are constantly talking and bothering their classmates, but they do their activities and participate of the class. The students of first year are always moving, talking and some of them doing another thing not related with the class. But they pay attention to the teacher, but only for few minutes. They lost their concentration very easy. The second year is similar to first year; the different is the amount of children paying attention to the class.
Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom.
In the 8 grade the learning style and the level of English is very high. Because they are part of an advance class, so they learn faster than the other group of their course. In the first grade the level of English is normal, because the children have just learnt English. In the second year there are students that learn very fast, but others do not do. The level of English is the same for all the students.

PD: profora lo tuve que hacer en dos comentarios, porque en uno no me alcanzo.
San Judas Tadeo School is located in San Juan de Dios hill. This school has only the primary level of education, since kinder to 8th grade. In every class there are almost 20 student, boys and girls. The organization is in charge of the principal of the school , the UTP and teachers. The school has approximately 250 student . The school itself has a very welcoming and friendly environment. It is a little school but with a big heart.
2. The classroom
The classroom are big enough to have a normal environment of education. The chairs and tables are a bit old. All classrooms have a big window with a beautiful view to the seaport and because of that the lighting is very appropiate, also have a whiteboard and in some classrooms there are the equipments to install technological devices. They have a special classroom call ENLACES where they can use computers to educational purposes.
3. The activities & resources
a) With the teacher we used to do dinamic and funny activities in order to encourage the student to learn English in a better and didactic way. For example we use songs , videos, songs , representations, etc... Most of the children participate but obviusly there are some student that always want to make pranks and they don’t apreciate the effort that we do for them. But in most of the classes the activities do work.
b) The school has equipment to use in order to have more participative and entertain classes. In some rooms there are technological devices like data , the screen, speakers, etc... But not all the teacher know how to use it and in some of the classes they can use this kind of resources. Also they have the English book according to their level.
Task 2: Student´s learning
1. The learners
Well, in the school the English classes are not always as we think they going to be. Some children are very motivated to learn more and they participate in the class, but others don’t want to do anything in the class and they start to distract the others that actually want to learn. Other students want to the teacher do everything for them , they can not understand that the teacher is only a link between them and the knowledge.
2. Behaviour during classroom activities
Most of the student want to participate in the activities because me and the teacher used to motivated them to do it with a lot of energy and telling them that everybody can participate and contribute with the activity. I think that is escencial to give all the student the oportunity to do something. In some case there some students that don’t want to participate because a lot of reasons , for example they can be too shy , or they just don’t want. Here is important not to push them to do something that they don’t wan to.
3. Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom.
In classes we can see different level of English and for that reason the teacher is always trying to get the best of all the student . She is consious that everybody learn in different ways and for this she tries to do different activities
Name of student: Evelyn Dinamarca Arraño Name of School: Gaspar Cabrales Number of students: 25 / 22 Date: 18/05/2010 Class: 5ºA/ 5ºB Briefly describe the following aspects:
1. The school:
Describe the general background of the school including the physical location, organisation, student population, philosophy and educational and behavioural policies.
Gaspar Cabrales School is located in Valparaíso. This is a primary school - from Kinder to 8º - divided between A and B, so there are 18 courses in total. Every course has approximately 25 pupils, so there are 450 pupils approximately in the school. It is a mixed school. Politics of the good behavior: there exist several disciplinary faults for which a pupil can be sanctioned. For example: The pupils can neither eat in the classroom, nor leave the sit without asking nor speak with classmates while the teacher is explaining. The pupil will be annotate in the classes’s book if it does not fullfil any of this rules , also for don’t doing tasks or for being disrespectful with the teacher. If a pupil reaches three consecutive annotations, the teacher will send a citation to the proxy.
2. The classroom Describe the atmosphere of the room and the levels of engagement in the room. Make notes on seating, sight lines, space, air, light, whiteboard, equipment, etc
The classrooms in which I work are wide enough - I can walk coolly to help all the pupils at different points of the room-, they are well illuminated and with good air traffic because at the end of every room there are big large windows. The desks of the pupils are for two. Occasionally they sit in groups of 4 or the teacher sometimes forms them in rows. The whiteboard is well located, in view of all the pupils and to a prudent height. Every room has a datashow, shelves and a big desk for the teacher.
3. The activities & resources a)Make notes on the kind of activities used, the nature of student involvement, balance of student doing things and teacher doing things
With the teacher we carry out several different activities in order that the pupils learn in a didactic way the stuff that we teach them. For example: In order that the pupils were understanding in a better way how to greet and to begin a conversation in English, we teach them a song and we invented a choreography in order that they connected the gestures to the words that they were singing and with the stuff that we taught them. In this activity, the majority of the pupils take part and offer to represent voluntarily the choreography to his classmates, whereas others a bit shier were kept to the margin, but little by little they are losing the shame and join to the rest of his classmates. Another activity that we carry out with the teacher was to deliver sheets of paper with drawings to the children in order that they colored and learned the colors. In all these activities, the teacher does the half of the work teaching the stuff and distributing guides or singing songs, whereas the pupils do another half of the work developing the assigned activities.
b)Describe the resources used and the materials available within the school. How are the resources used in the classroom?
The principal material with which we work at the classroom is with the English book that delivers the Department of Education to every college. Every pupil has one, and the teacher has his book guides tool. Also, as I said previously, every room has a datashow, but we still have not had the opportunity to use it. What we have used is a radio to do the Listening activities of the English book.
In this second observation task, you should focus on the things that help to create conditions for effective learning and on the aspects that play a part in preventing learning.
1.The learners How motivated are the learners? Why? To what extent are they taking part in their own learning? To what extent are they expecting the teacher to do the work for them?
As I said in the first question, I work with both 5ºs of the college, and every 5º is different from other one. In the 5º B they are a bit less participative than the pupils of 5ºA, but this does not relate that they do not want to learn, it is related with the personalities of the children. The children of the 5ºB are shier than the children of 5ºA, this deprive them in certain form from taking part in the class, because they feel embarrassed to answer what the teacher asks or to sing a song in front of the class. Whereas the children of 5º A offer at once and they all want to answer and to take part in the class. This is a significant advantage for them, because they are active in the class, so they learn faster. The pupils in my case do not hope that the teacher does the work for them, only they hope that she explains the activities and they develop them.
2.Behaviour during classroom activities Describe the ways students are encouraged to participate in activities. Are there any particular strategies for managing issues and motivating students? Are there any students with special needs?
The majority of the pupils are participative enough, therefore, it is not extremely necessary to motivate them in order that they take part of the class. In case it is necessary to motivate them, the teacher insists on the strategy of revising the stuff in order to make up their minds. An example of cases of “special needs” occurs when some shier pupils need more attention because it is difficult to them to yield and to take part, whereas others are too participative and it is necessary to stop them a bit occasionally - the teacher in these cases called them attention.
3. Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom.
The teacher tries in every class to apply a different style of education, in order that in this way all the pupils learn the stuff. In addition, she makes clear the stuff of several forms: she speaks it, she annotates it in the whiteboard in order that the pupils copy it in his notebooks, she sings songs to them and teaches choreographies to them; this way the pupils retain the information in the way that is easier for each of them. The English level of the pupils differs between both 5ºs, in 5ºA the level is a bit higher that in 5ºB, but even this way it is a regular level for children of his age, who are relating little by little to this new language.
This school is a girls school, it has almost 1500 students from kindergarden to 8th grade. Right now the school is helping another school because of the earthquake, and at nights are attending adults. The school is located in Valparaíso at Eusebio Lillo N°138, just off Argentina Avenue, it is a big building, with a lot of classroms (since the grades go to letter A to letter E)
2. The classroom
In 4ª B the classroom seems to be very confortable, a little dark, but I think that is the only problem about it. Another thing that called my attention, was that the teacher’s desk is not at the front of the students, it’s at one side. In 3º E the classroom it’s very confortable also, because there’s only 16 girls, so they have a lot of space, this classroom it’s also a little bit dark.
3. The activities & resources
In 4º B the students were working on vocabulary, specificly in the parts of the house. The teacher wrote the word in the board, with their pronunciation, and then the girls have to look for images in magazines and paste them in ther copybooks.
In 3º E the studenst were learning the number from 1 to 30, the teacher made the next activity, she wrote, with word, some numbers, and at the other side of the board she wrote the same numbers but in a different order (with number), so the students have to match the numbers.
I think that the school has a lot of resources. The teacher told me that on the next class with 3ª E she is going to use the computers to do an activity with the girls about numbers.
Task 2: Student´s learning
In this second observation task, you should focus on the things that help to create conditions for effective learning and on the aspects that play a part in preventing learning.
1. The learners
In 4º B the girls work very good, they pay attention, they ask questions and their behaviour is good. I think that most of these students are motivated and they seem to like the English class, but in 3 ª E the students are not as motivated as the girls in 4 º B they are very loud, and they spend most of the class playing and talking, they want that the teacher or me, do the work instead of them, and some girls stop working if you let them alone.
2. Behaviour during classroom activities
As I mentioned before in 4º B the students work very good, they participate when the teacher ask them questions, and they do all the activities during the class, of course there are some exceptions, but the teacher tell them that If they don’t work, they will get a bad grade in the test. While in 3º E most of the girls don’t work, so the teacher is telling them during all the class to do the activities. In this class there are some girls that are in the diferencial (diferenciado) because they have problems in concentration, so the teacher pays more attention to them.
3. Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom.
My first reaction when I started Vise II was that the level of English was very low, I thought that they were going to do something more advanced, compared with what I was studying at that age. Also they girls wokr very slowly, and they have only two hours of English at week. Most of the girls lear by listening to the teacher and then repeting by theirselves. Also comparing English with Spanish
(I'm sending the workshop late, because I started classes with 3ºE yesterday, and I thought it was important to talk about that class also)
Name of the student: Paula Garrido S. Name of the school: Esperanza School Number of students: 35 Date : may 18th 2010 class:2nd,3rd, 4th grade, primary school Briefly describe the following aspects:
1. The school: .- Esperanza school is a mixed primary and secondary school, which is located in cumming street 1351 Quilpué. This is a religious school, it philosophy is base on the Presbyterian Church. Esperanza School is organized in classes divided into two sections per grade. That is means A-B- for each grade. The school has 35 students in average. 2. The classroom: The classrooms in primary school are located in the first floor. There are comfortable, well ventilated, and illuminated classrooms; there is an appropriated atmosphere to learn in each classroom. There is a whiteboard in each classroom and little lockers for each child. 3. Activities and resources: there are a wide variety of activities like speaking activities, doing exercises on the whiteboard, crossword puzzles, etc. Children do not like to do speaking activities, but they enjoy going to the whiteboard and doing crossword puzzles. Children can use their workbooks and course books, apart from the extra material which the teacher deliver them. Task 2: Student ´s learning 1. The learners: Children in these courses are really motivated about learning English, because, they have to learn this subject from pre-kinder. The way that the teacher teaches is very good and also the books that they use are very good.
2. Behaviour during classroom activities: Children usually are asking things related to the subject, and they always want to participate in the classroom they are very interested in learning English. There are some children with special needs, some of them have behavior problems, they do not stay at the same level of English with their classmates.
3. I really like the learning styles of these students, everyday they learn new things. They go step by step learning important things in grammar and vocabulary .Of course not every student have the same level of English. I think It would be better to have different courses depending on the level of English.
“Colegio Nacional de Limache” is located in Urmeneta Av. 473#. The organisation of the school is very strict as there are their policies, for example they don’t allow parents to bring something their children might have forgot, so in that case children learn to bring their own things from a very young age.
2. The Classroom.
Classrooms are medium size, built to have in about 40 students. Sittings are frontal so the students are supposed to look and pay attention to what the teacher is doing, the teacher usually locks the classroom the they go to a break, for that matter you can leave your things inside the classroom without worrying that someone might steal your things. The school has the economical means to help with equipment and materials that students might need.
3. The activities & resources
a) the activities are divided into the lessons of their work book and reading comprehension , both are presented at the front of the classroom. The students are assigned with parts of the unit and they have to read it at loud the unit is read in English and in Spanish so there’s translation involved, and the book they are reading is the Phantom of the Opera and they do it exactly the same as the work book. b) The school gives the materials this means that, the school provides the books and there are microphones and speakers if the students read too low.
Taks 2: Student’s learning
1. The Learners:
At the beginning everyone looked a bit shy and they were all in silence. At the front there were a group of students who were reading “The Phantom of the Opera”, I saw that everyone was paying attention to their classmates, the classmates were talking on the microphone and try to do theirs best, actually I was a bit impressed with these kids, because, besides the reading the were also trying to translate and interpretate the reading, and although the do this assignments at home it’s good that they try to give a meaning to what they are reading and understand it. Sometimes the teacher cannot help her self to get involved with the reading when they make mistakes, but everyone tries to do their own assignments.
2. Behaviour during classroom activities.
Well I have to say that students in a way don’t have much of a choice when to participate in classes, because the teacher is very strong minded and sometimes this makes her look a bit of a dictator, sometimes this attitude could look amusing, but others this attitude looks a bit intimidating and I guess we are not in the times were fear is the best tool to control students or the best way to develop a class. I haven’t seen any particular strategies that the teacher uses, except for the ones that I have already mentioned and as far as I have seen there are no students unable to do their assignments or with special need for that matter.
LORENA LOPEZ DIJO: Name of student: Lorena López Manriquez Name of School: San Gabriel de la Rivera Number of students: 45 and 35 app. Date: 04/06/2010 Class: 6º A (primary) 2º A (secondary) 1. The school: San Gabriel de la Rivera School is located in Blanco Encalada Nº 475, La Calera. It is a semi-subsidized and coeducational school. The population is around 1000 that is composed by primary and secondary students. The purpose of this school is clearly to make that the students get a place at university. It has a very strict regulation behavioral. In terms of structure I can say that it has a big one that even they are making it bigger.
2. The classroom Both classrooms are big enough for a normal group of student with a number of 35 or 38. But in the group of 6º the classroom is small in relation with the amount of students in that level. They are seated in three lines of tables. The entire classroom is well illuminated, they have good ventilation, the blackboard is used with chalk, this school has the equipment but they are not working, therefore teachers do not use them.
3. The activities & resources a) The writing activities are the most used, but also teachers try to make something different. Students do what teachers ask them to do. They are always working but sometime they are interrupted by teachers that started to talk about irrelevant things that make them loose a class. But in general teachers try to make them work a lot. b) The time that I have been there I have seen only once when student used an extra resource (computers) and it was a problem because there were only three working so the activity was not efficient.
Task 2: 1. The learners Learned are motivated to learn a different language because of the music or only for the natural attraction that English caused. They are taking part in some extent in their own learning just in what is traditional learning; they are always working and making what they have to do. 2. Behavior during classroom activities I have not seen any particular strategy for managing issues and motivating students. Teachers are only making regular activities and the traditional way to explain a specific topic. Some students are always participating because they like to, but most of them are practically obliged. 3. Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom. Some of the students are very good at English, they always finish first. Some others can not finish the activity. Almost the entire class tries to participate on the asked task and also they try to ask everything that they cannot understand.

1. The School
The Republic of Uruguay School is an only girls primary public school located in the downtown area of Valparaiso at Eusebio Lillo N°138, just off Argentina Avenue, an area where you can find many other schools.
2. The Classroom
Both classrooms that I observed have a very similar layout.
1. The Learners
In my opinion, I don´t see them really motivated to learn English, I feel they did the activities as part of any other school task, focusing more on getting the work done, rather than actually learning what is being taught.

Briefly describe the following aspects:
1. The learners
I would say that most of them are not motivated at all, I think the problem begins in their houses, maybe their parents are not interested in what their children are doing, so they dont motivate the students. They hate working by themselves, they are always asking everything, and the teacher sometimes cant help 25 students, and maybe they cant get even more frustrated. They enjoy playing in the classroom, and the less they do the happier they are, so they wait to the teacher to make the work for them.
2. Behaviour during classroom activities
The most common way to ecourage them is by saying that they will be sent to the principal’s office or that they parents will be called to an interview, that is the only way they get quiet and start participating.
3. Discuss the learning styles and levels of English in the classroom.
There are some students that are very intelligents but I could notice than they dont study, so they keep forgetting things. The level of English I think is normal to students of 10 years old, but I have seen some of them who dont know anything, that is very worrying.

1. THE SCHOOL
The Escuela República de Uruguay is located in the downtown of Valparaiso city especifically at Eusebio Lillo N°138.It is an primary public school only for girls. And with a student population is around 1500 students ,it is organizated in classes divided into four sections per grade. That is means A-B-C-D for each grade. With a average of 35 students, the classes are not too populous like another schools.
2- THE CLASSROOM
The room has a big window and is located in the third floor so in terms of air and light there has no problem and it has enough space to lodge 36 students. About the equipment there is a fit whiteboard in the centre of the wall with 2 different colours of markers and at the top of the is settled a big plasma TV that looks luxurious and new.
3-ACTIVITIES & RESOURSES
A) That day the students had a test about Present Simple, so it was supposed that all of them had studied for the test.
1- THE LEARNERS
Almost the entire group of students are not motivated with the class.
-BEHAVIOUR DURING CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES
Well, I stayed in class with them almost 20 minutes.

ResponderEliminarThe learners

1. The school:
3. The activities & resources
a)
With the teacher we used to do dinamic and funny activities in order to encourage the student to learn English in a better and didactic way. For example we use songs , videos, songs , representations, etc... Most of the children participate but obviusly there are some student that always want to make pranks and they don’t apreciate the effort that we do for them. But in most of the classes the activities do work.
b)
The school has equipment to use in order to have more participative and entertain classes.

2. The classroom
Describe the atmosphere of the room and the levels of engagement in the room.
3. The activities & resources
a)Make notes on the kind of activities used, the nature of student involvement, balance of student doing things and teacher doing things
SECOND PART...
ResponderEliminarTask 2: Student´s learning
In this second observation task, you should focus on the things that help to create conditions for effective learning and on the aspects that play a part in preventing learning.
1.The learners
How motivated are the learners?
2.Behaviour during classroom activities
Describe the ways students are encouraged to participate in activities.

ResponderEliminarName of the school: Esperanza School
Number of students: 35
Date : may 18th 2010 class:2nd,3rd, 4th grade, primary school
Briefly describe the following aspects:
1. The school:
.- Esperanza school is a mixed primary and secondary school, which is located in cumming street 1351 Quilpué. This is a religious school, it philosophy is base on the Presbyterian Church. Esperanza School is organized in classes divided into two sections per grade. That is means A-B- for each grade. The school has 35 students in average.
2. The classroom:
The classrooms in primary school are located in the first floor.
Task 2: Student ´s learning
Task 1: The school and Learning Environment
ResponderEliminar1. The School

Name of School: San Gabriel de la Rivera
Number of students: 45 and 35 app.
Date: 04/06/2010
Class: 6º A (primary) 2º A (secondary)
1. The school:
San Gabriel de la Rivera School is located in Blanco Encalada Nº 475, La Calera. It is a semi-subsidized and coeducational school. The population is around 1000 that is composed by primary and secondary students. The purpose of this school is clearly to make that the students get a place at university. It has a very strict regulation behavioral. In terms of structure I can say that it has a big one that even they are making it bigger.
2. The classroom
Both classrooms are big enough for a normal group of student with a number of 35 or 38. But in the group of 6º the classroom is small in relation with the amount of students in that level. They are seated in three lines of tables. The entire classroom is well illuminated, they have good ventilation, the blackboard is used with chalk, this school has the equipment but they are not working, therefore teachers do not use them.
3. The activities & resources
a) The writing activities are the most used, but also teachers try to make something different.
Task 2:
1. The learners
Learned are motivated to learn a different language because of the music or only for the natural attraction that English caused. They are taking part in some extent in their own learning just in what is traditional learning; they are always working and making what they have to do.
2. Behavior during classroom activities
I have not seen any particular strategy for managing issues and motivating students.
